Blogging for your Business

Every new Drupal site that we build for clients comes with the ability to blog, out of the box. So, naturally, blogging is always one of our first recommendations. Not because it's there but because it makes good business sense to do so.

According to Stadia Studio, Blogging is a great way to promote your business.First, every website needs to have *some* method for regularly adding new content. Google search engine results are based on relevancy. The more relevant a site is for a given search the higher it will rank. Google tries to determine relevancy using a number of factors, but two important ones are frequency of keyword and update frequency. So, the more often you write, using specific targetted keywords, the better your site will perform in search engines.

Blogging is quick and easy to do.

Blog entries are not expected to be long, and can be on anything you might wish to discuss. I obviously restrict my own blog entries to topics related to the web design business in order to educate my clients and maximize my keyword usage.

The second reason to blog is to give your clients and potential clients a glimpse of your style and personality. The best way to earn a new client is to get them to Know, Like and Trust you. That can only come through conversation, but that conversation does not have to be live. You and I are having one right now, albeit one-sided. Consider that once you publish a blog entry to your site, it will sit there and have conversation after conversation for you. If your entries *speak* to your visitors, they'll want to hear more.

Finally, blog entries are a great way to demonstrate that you are an expert in your field. By regularly discussing and educating on topics important to your clients, you show them that you know what you're talking about, and that you care enough to take the time to help them.

I don't know about you, but if someone goes out of their way to lend me some free advice that can help me in my business or personal life, I'll be more apt to know, like and trust them.

UPDATE:

If you're using a Drupal site, there's a module we can install that will automatically post a link to new blog entries to your Twitter account.

Additionally, we can help you set up the RSS Graffiti application in your facebook account so that your Facebook page will also automatically post links and teasers to new blog posts.

Finally, stay tuned for the new DiGG as it's supposed to support automatic DiGGing of new articles via RSS feed.
