And what about mobile platforms? Not every business needs a true mobile app, but every business website needs to at least work on an iPhone and other smart phones. More and more users are accessing the web while on their phone, and the data shows that very often it's to find out information regarding a product or service that is needed at that time. A good web design will be tested on all platforms for all users.

First Impressions

Remember, if someone finds your website, it's often the first chance you get to make a good impression. If they're not impressed and hit that Back button, you may never get a second chance.

So before you turn your website and your business image over to that family friend or college student, ask yourself, "What is the consequence of letting a novice create my website?" You owe it to yourself and to your business to ensure that your website is handled by a professional web designer. There are elements of font, style, placement, usability, and more that no novice can adequately comprehend.
