The focus of every Search Engine Optimization effort should be to target a specific set of keywords, but how does a small business owner go about deciding which words and phrases to include?

The third aspect that search engines consider when evaluating keyword is frequency or sometimes referred to as density. How often does a specific keyword appear on your web page? The more often it appears, the more important it must be.

Do not repeat keywords. Search engines will detect that and your customers will not appreciate it. Be creative, provide lots of good information, and you'll be able to use your keywords on your website repeatedly in a normal, conversational fashion.

Another aspect that search engines consider is prominence. The higher up in a page or post a keyword appears, the more important it must be.

When writing or editing your content, be sure to use targeted keywords in page titles and section headings. These help to increase the prominence of those keywords on your page, a factor tha search engines take into consideration.

Businesses change. Products and Services change. Markets, demographics and competition change. You should take a look at your keywords at least twice a year and ensure that you are still targeting the best words and phrases.
